Where responsibility begins

Responsibility is a product experience, not a disclaimer.

Camera-first smart glasses change how naturally a moment can be recorded. That makes clarity important from the beginning: people should understand what the product is for, how it behaves, and when capture is appropriate.

For 8ight, responsibility means designing the hardware, software, guidance, and public communication as one connected experience. It also means stating what is known, what is still in development, and where the wearer must make a thoughtful choice.

Four connected decisions

Make the right behavior easier to understand.

01

Clear intent

Capture should begin for a reason, not simply because a camera is available.

02

Legible behavior

Product guidance and recording behavior should help people understand what is happening.

03

Context matters

Private spaces, venue rules, local laws, and the people nearby shape what is appropriate.

04

Review with care

Captured material should be considered before it is retained, edited, or shared.

The complete product

Trust has to survive every layer of the system.

A camera-first product is more than its frame. Physical controls, capture behavior, onboarding, review, editing, support, and responsible-use guidance all influence whether the experience remains clear.

  • 01Hardware people can understand
  • 02Software that keeps the footage in context
  • 03Guidance that does not hide the tradeoffs

Clarity builds confidence

The product should explain itself before the moment becomes complicated.

Good onboarding makes the purpose and boundaries of a wearable camera easier to understand. Visible guidance, clear language, and deliberate controls help the wearer make decisions without guessing.

Clarity is not an extra layer. It is part of how the product earns trust.

8ight product principle

Capture should fit the setting

The same camera can feel different in a studio, a street, or a private room.

Responsible capture depends on context. Before recording, the wearer should consider the people nearby, the sensitivity of the location, the rules that apply, and whether everyone who needs to understand the setup does.

02Do local laws and venue rules allow it?

03Do the people involved understand the setup?

04Should this footage be kept or shared?

A launch standard

Explain what is known. Name what is still being developed.

8ight will keep public product claims tied to verified information. Where a feature, behavior, or specification is still being developed, the website should say so directly rather than presenting an intention as a finished capability.

Responsible-use guidance will continue to cover transparency, consent, private and sensitive spaces, local laws, venue rules, workplaces, schools, events, livestreaming, and thoughtful sharing.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers about responsible capture.

What does responsible capture mean?

Can camera-first glasses be used everywhere?

No. Laws, venue policies, workplace rules, private spaces, and the expectations of people nearby all affect whether recording is appropriate.
